Maria Lissowska

Statement of Maria Lissowska for the EAEPE Council election:

I am a professor at the Warsaw School of Economics. My fields of research are institutional economics (In 2008, I published a book 'Institutions for Market Economy. The Case of Poland') and financial economics.
I have been an EAEPE member since 1995 and a member of the EAEPE Council until 2009, I have also been, for 6 years, a co-ordinator of the Research Area on Structural and Institutional Change in Eastern Europe, active on each EAEPE conference. A special issue of a journal is now prepared as outcome of our discussions.
I see my place in EAEPE in extending research on comparative institutions to cover post-transition countries. Their experience has been that of institutional change par excellence, valuable also as a development case. My work as Research Area co-ordinator goes in this direction. Recently I was co-organiser of a very successful EAEPE Symposium which took stock of 20 years of transition.
Being a member of ISNIE and of the European Association for Comparative Economic Studies I would like to contribute to extend EAEPE co-operation with those organisations. I see a need to organise further debates on comparing institutions.
Working in the group responsible for EAEPE Working Papers, I would like to make it a way of enabling younger scholars to publish in high level journals.
