Social and Cultural Economics investigates the relationships between the economy and society. The questions addressed are:
-    How does social interaction affect economic outcomes?
-    How do social and moral values influence economic behaviour?
-    How do different social institutions contribute to an efficient, sustainable and just economy?
-    What economic conditions are requisite for a good society and how can they be achieved?
-    What are the (ethical) implications of economic theory and policy?
Culture is described as a relatively coherent set of related norms, values and institutions, constitutive of the social and economic world, and a significant influence on economic interactions. The role of economic institutions in improving people’s lives and well-being is particularly examined. Social and cultural economists recognize the role of public policy in achieving economic and social ends. Studies in social and cultural economics often require interdisciplinary approaches.
