The EAEPE Mentoring Programme

In 2024 EAEPE has launched a new initiative to support its young scholars: the EAEPE Mentoring Programme. The idea is to match Masters and PhD students as well as other early career researchers (mentees) with more experienced scholars (mentors) to get advice, pitch ideas and learn from each other. The set of questions and topics that mentors can help mentees with is long. They include, for instance:

  • What are different career options and prospects in academia?
  • How to think strategically about my research and publication activities?
  • What are specific challenges and opportunities for heterodox economists (institutions, funding programs, etc.)?
  • Is research the right career path for me?
  • What are the most relevant networks in my research area?

The EAEPE mentors are mostly long-time members of the Association, but some volunteers have joined from outside EAEPE as well. In the first cycle, there were 21 mentee-mentor pairs.

How it works

The duration of a mentoring cycle is currently one year. Potential participants can meet each other informally at the kick-off event at the annual conference. Follow-up meetings can be virtual or in person. Information about current mentors can be found here: Link

Are you interested?

We are launching the new mentoring cycle at the 2025 conference in Athens. There will be a small informal kick-off for all interested participants on the evening of the first day of the main conference.  If you have any questions about the EAEPE Mentoring Programme, or if you would be willing to become a mentor yourself, please contact us via [email protected].
